DESCRIPTION:The CyberReach / IEEE STEM Cyber Event is designed for students in grades K-12 to gain the knowledge to identify and explain the basic hardware and software components of a computer\, as well as recognize network components and protocols\, and common cyber security threats and vulnerabilities. In addition\, students will also learn about the different types of industry certifications and jobs that are available. \nTwo Identical Session will be held (8:30-10) OR  (10-11:30) Designed to allow Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to complete badge requirements AND for general public STEM awareness and education. \n Students and Scouts will have the opportunity to do the following at the event: \n\nLearn about the internal and external parts of the computer.\nIdentify basic security threats.\nCrack encrypted codes and learn about historic ciphers.\nRecognize basic networking components and protocols.\nLearn how to safely browse the internet.\nIntroduce how to create a secure password and protect their personal information.\n\nDifferent activities available for each focus area and age. \nThis event is being held in conjunction with the IEEE SoutheastCon 2019 conference at the Von Braun Civic Center. Other exciting activities will be taking place simultaneously in the VBC South Hall. In her role\, she helps oversee an organization of more than 2\,300 civil service and contractor personnel responsible for the design\, testing\, evaluation and operation of flight hardware and software associated with space transportation\, spacecraft systems\, science instruments and payloads under development at Marshall. She was appointed to the position in December 2018. \nA native of Huntsville AL\, Watson-Morgan graduated from the University of Alabama in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering; the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1994 with a master’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering; and the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2008 with a doctorate in Engineering Management. She has received numerous NASA awards\, including the Exceptional Service Medal in 2001; Exceptional Achievement Medal in 2010; and a Meritorious Presidential Rank Award in 2018. Watson-Morgan and her husband live in Huntsville and have three children.
